Nicholas Socrates

Nick is an accomplished Jersey architect and artist with distinguished qualifications in architecture and urban design. He has worked on a wide range of ground breaking international and UK projects of high-profile masterplaning and regeneration schemes – including; St Helier Waterfront Masterplan, Bristol Temple Meads regeneration, Oxford Central masterplan and Oxford train station design, Jersey’s East Quay regeneration, Jersey’s Snow Hill, St Helier regeneration and various masterplans and large scale residential developments, amongst others.

He holds an MA Distinction in Urban Design from the University of Barcelona. An MArch (Part 2) Distinction in Architecture from Technical University (TU) Delft and Bristol UWE. A BA (Hons) (Part 1) in Architecture from London Metropolitan University. He also holds a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton.

Nick is currently shortlisted for Chelsea Football Club’s new Stamford Bridge Stadium’s Entrance Gates.

His slum regeneration masterplan and innovative bridge construction in Agra, India was shortlisted and highly commended for AECOM’s international SOS Urban Frontiers competition in 2012. His designs for Rotterdam’s Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s New Art Gallery and Depository were shortlisted for Architizer’s A+Awards in 2013.

In 2015 his competition entry for the £2.5m Water Activity Centre, was shortlisted then finally awarded second place. His Park Bridge project was selected to appear in the Bridges category for The Architects Journal’s (AJ) ‘The Architecture Tomorrow Gallery’ and exhibited at MIPIM 2015.

His artwork animation ‘Abstract Articulation of Architectural Space’ was shortlisted and highly commended for the international CINECITY Architectural Film prize and his Light Emitting Concrete innovation was shortlisted for DESIGNBOOM’s ‘Happy LED Life’ competition and it was selected for the prestigous exhibition at Gwangju’s 2015 International Design Biennale.

His selective paintings won the See.Me art prize and his painting ‘Steel Breeze’ was shortlisted for the prestigious Threadneedle prize at Mall Galleries, London in 2011.

His work has been exhibited at the Vienna Art Fair, the Innsbruck Contemporary Art Fair, the Puerto Rico Art Fair, Jersey’s International AirportWestminster’s European Commissions Representation, and in London, Bristol, New York, Paris and Berlin, amongst others.

Nick is the Principal and Design Director at Socrates Architects. Socrates Architects are an award-winning and celebrated innovative and creative design-led Jersey architects practice.

Socrates Architects produce architecture in Jersey, London, and Nationally. 

Founded in 2010 by Nicholas Socrates, and fully established in 2018, today Socrates Architects are an award-winning architects studio providing architecture, interior and urban design services from concept to completion.
